Posture and Mudra: Sit in Easy Pose with a straight spine, chin in, chest out. Bring both hands into Gyan Mudra (touch the tip of the index finger to the tip of the thumb, other fingers straight). Place the right hand next to the right shoulder, palm facing forward.
The fingers point up towards the ceiling, and the hand is up at the level of the face. The left elbow is bent into the side, and the left hand is resting, palm up, on left knee.
Mantra: Chant the 25th pauree of Japji Sahib aloud.
Time: The meditation was done for nearly 28 minutes, then Yogi Bhajan gave the class a break to ask them to "raise the energy higher," and they resumed for another 6 minutes.
To End: Inhale, hold the posture, and move immediately into Part II.
Comments/Effects: "This shabad will change your poverty into prosperity." Yogi Bhajan made this comment before the final 6 minutes: "Go higher in notes and now sing, energizing the electromagnetic energy of the Earth, and passing it on to the Heavens. Don't be here. Pull the electromagnetic energy from the Earth by your will. You are ready now. You have a blue arcline, so push it into the Heavens."
Mudra: Same as above.
Breath: Breathe very long, deep, and slow through the nose. In the silence, hear the sound of the mantra in your inner ear.
Time: 4 minutes, 45 seconds.
To End: Inhale deeply, squeeze your entire spine, all 26 vertebrae, from bottom to top, bringing the energy from the Earth to the Heavens. Hold 15-20 seconds. Fire the breath out. Repeat 3 times total.
Comments/Effects: Breathing in this posture will re-organize your pranic energy. Breathe long and deep, and change the dimension of your being into the beyond.
Bhangra Dance was done to a tape for a few minutes, after this meditation. Yogi Bhajan said it was important to dance before everyone went home to sleep, in order to balance out the energy and keep the nervous system strong.
