Yogi Bhajan’s Approach to Ayurveda and Yogic Healing

“Parsley is as much a part of yoga as camel pose.”

  “Hands and herbs heal”

  “Herbs heal, God cures”

 -Yogi Bhajan

Late one night, after everyone had gone to bed, in a distant ashram in a distant city, Yogi Bhajan leaned over and whispered to me, “Ayurveda, the perfect science.” Yogi Bhajan was a master of yoga and meditation, but he was much more. As a natural healing adept, he taught a vast collection of healing food recipes and herbal remedies. His herbal knowledge came faithfully from the vast healing tradition of Ayurveda, in which he was deeply immersed.

Self-healing is self-discipline. When you have the balance of the neutral mind, gained through the practice of yoga, you will be able to delay gratification for your own personal benefit, to reap the rewards of good health later, and feel great while doing it.

Cleansing is not always the place to start. Most Americans, in fact, are not ready for very much aggressive cleansing. Ayurveda recommends starting with a very mild, short cleanse, followed by a very mild, short building program alternating in intensity and duration, until you are clean in every tissue and filled with boundless energy. The goal of yogic healing is to become bountiful, beautiful and blissful.

We start with helping people to get out of pain. Then we help them understand the individual body they were born into, so they can create and follow a lifetime plan for success, health and prosperity. Every one of us is different—different enough that we need to eat, sleep and live according to our own rhythms to stay healthy. We choose foods, herbs and meditations that bring each person back to their essential self, and teach them how to stay in balance.

Ancient Ayurvedic teachings include not only posture and meditation but also diet and herbal preparations for vibrant health. Learn how you can use Yogi Bhajan’s ancient teachings to improve your own wellbeing under the pressures of modern living.

Find out what will work for you personally—which types of food, herbs, and lifestyle changes will give you what you need to be strong and physically, mentally and spiritually balanced. Heal your digestion, detoxify your tissues and leave depression and anxiety behind forever.
